Reject Sweetpeas and a Reject Knee

Well, I promised that I would post a photo of my sweetpeas no matter how they turned out so here they are. I don't like them at all and they are probably headed either for the bin or my daughter's dollshouse..... I made them from cold porcelain but couldn't find my thin green wires anywhere so I had to use white ones and painted them. And then I did a bad job of twisting the individual flowers into realistic stems of flowers. I have decided to try to make some from tissue paper - it might give me more the delicate look that I want. And I will make the stems first this time.

I do have an excuse for this terrible work! Last Sunday we decided that as it was the last day of the school holidays, we would take the children iceskating for the first time. New Zealand isn't very big, so there are probably only about five iceskating rinks in the whole country, so it was a whole day expedition, driving up to Auckland and going skating. The kids had a fantastic time but I now have a badly damaged knee (cruciate ligament), which is going to take about 6 weeks to come right (if I'm lucky). So I have had a difficult week, both at work and at home and it is very sore and I am sad. :-( The picture is NOT of my sad knee.....my knees are not pretty enough to post on my blog, so I am using someone else's sad knee photo! I do a lot of my miniature making kneeling on the floor by the coffee table, which I can't do at all at the moment. I fell over about a million times so no wonder I hurt myself. Ella fell over just as often but is totally fine.

But anyway, since I am generally a positive person, I will end on a happier note, so here is quite a cute photo I took of Matthew skating. He loved it so much!

Keep your fingers crossed for my next attempt at sweetpeas.

The pictured sad knees are hilarious, but there's nothing funny at all about yours :( Your mention of sitting on the floor working on the coffee table to make minis took my mind back about 25 years cos that's what I used to do - now if I get down on the floor it takes me forever to get back up again (age is so cruel!!) so now I'm more likely to stand at the bench or the table - and then I wonder why after a few days of it I get fat ankles!! I'm slowly training myself to sit down to work, but for some things it just doesn't seem to be the right position!

Now, about the flowers - I think sweet peas are so incredibly difficult because they are so paper thin so I think that indeed you will be more satisfied with the result if you use paper. I wouldn't bin these tho, just think up some creative botanical name and give them a new identity cos tho they might not be right as sweet peas they're still pretty!

I agree with Norma, don't throw them out. And I think you should take this opportunity to find a better position to maky your minis, so many hours on your knees will give you 'housemaids knees' whatever that is, but it can't do you knees much good I am sure:)
I only tried ice skating once and couldn't let go of the wall. That ice is awefully hard.
Look forward to seeing your paper version!

Carolyn, I hope your knee heals really fast for you. That can be so painful!!! Your sweet peas are wonderful for a first attempt. Now, when you do them with the paper they should turn out perfect! You have already done the practicing!!

Norma's right - sweet peas are difficult!

Sorry to hear about your knee - please take very good care of it to get it better!!

Aw, sorry about the knee. I do hope it comes right soon. Like Norma, I stand to do a lot of miniatures, you seem to be able to see things better from above. I like your sweet peas, the colours are life like. I'm sure they'd look lovely in a mixed vase.

I don't think I know what sweet peas actually look like so I can't really comment other than to say your "flowers" don't seem all that bad, do not throw them out (they will be useful for something sometime) and, of course, keep trying!

Knees are very important things which we do not appreciate until we get older. I cannot imagine kneeling whilst working on mini's. My table is at countertop height so I often stand...and I have a tall chair for when I need to sit. Hope yours heals soon... In the meanwhile while, try a lap table. :-)

Dear Carolyn, now I understand why I have not heard more about you...
I'm terribly sorry for your accident: I had broken the cruciate ligament in my left knee when I was sixteen and I remember that was a very boring but then it all back in place enough!
Consulates thinking that your flowers of sweet peas, which you throw, I never get them even with your knees healthy!
If you have problems to send the fender not worry: when you can, send it to me unhurried :-)
Many mini hugs, flora

I don't think your sweet peas look that bad! Well done for having a go. If they upset you that much perhaps you could mix them in with another variety of flower - that at least would let you keep them.

Hi Francesca (Chipironini). I haven't had the email from you so I don't know what to do now. Are you registered with Etsy? I could put a listing on for you to buy and get your address that way. If I did it for $0.00 then you could go through checkout and it wouldn't cost you anything but I would still get your contact details for mailing the giveaway to you. Let me know if that will work for you. Best wishes carolyn
